Minister José Múcio Monteiro (Defense) stated this Wednesday (20) that the ministry and the Armed Forces will make the “sacrifice” requested by Minister Fernando Haddad (Finance) for the spending cut package that has been discussed for three weeks.
“We will contribute exactly as Minister Haddad asked us to contribute. It means that we are setting an example, a sacrifice to solve the country’s problem, which concerns everyone”, declared the minister.
at 3 pm, to finalize the discussions, with the expectation that the package will be announced by Friday (22) or early next week.
Múcio also stated that he discussed the cut with the commanders of the Armed Forces and that this reflects what would be a commitment to collaborate with the proposed economic measures.
The statement comes after meetings between Múcio, Haddad and Lula last week, in which the president requested help with the spending cut package.
Investigations indicate that one of the main changes planned should be in military pensions, with the creation of a minimum age of 55 years instead of the current rule that requires only 35 years of service.
The change places the minimum age of military personnel below that required for INSS workers, where men retire at 65 and women at 62. Currently, they maintain their full salary upon retirement and receive the same adjustments given to assets, contributing at a rate of 10.5%, while INSS workers pay between 7.5% and 14%, depending on the salary range, but are not entitled to full salary when inactive.
Another point under study is the end of the benefit known as “fictitious death”, which provides a full pension for family members of soldiers considered unfit for service and expelled from the Army, as if they had died. The proposal seeks to reduce the costs associated with this benefit.
