LeBron James, the superstar of the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers, announced this Wednesday (21) that he will temporarily step away from social media, after sharing a post lamenting the “negative” coverage in the American sports press.
King James, who has 212 million followers between Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), shared a message from Rich Kleiman, agent and business partner of another great NBA figure, Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns).
“With so much hate and negativity in the world today, it confuses me that some national sports outlets still think the best way to cover sports is through negative angles,” Kleiman said on X. “Personally, I think this is all a loss of time.”
“AMEN!!!”, wrote LeBron in support of Kleiman’s message.
“And having said that, I salute everyone! I’m withdrawing from social media for now. Take care everyone,” added the winger, who will turn 40 next month.
Winner of four rings and the highest scorer in NBA history, James had previously stepped away from social media to focus on the competition.
On this occasion, however, the winger had just expressed his dissatisfaction with criticism from some internet users after the Lakers’ victory on Tuesday over the Utah Jazz (124 to 118).
Praising the performance of rookie Dalton Knecht, who stood out by scoring 37 points, James assured that he had known his talent for a long time after following his career at the University of Tennessee.
“Everyone on the Internet calls me a liar all the time,” LeBron said. “They say I lie about everything. So why am I here? I told you, I followed you. I saw a lot of Tennessee.”
