The president () said this Thursday (21) that he has to be grateful for being alive, after the revelation of a .

“I’m a guy who has to be much more grateful now because I’m alive. The attempt to poison me and the [Geraldo] Alckmin didn’t work, we’re here”, he said.

This was Lula’s first statement about the episode, revealed by a PF operation launched last Tuesday.

The president also said that it is necessary to build a country “without persecution, without encouraging hatred, without encouraging disagreement”.

Lula continued with messages to the former president (), investigated as a mentor in the coup initiatives: “I don’t want to poison anyone, I don’t even want to persecute anyone. What I want is that, when my term ends, we demoralize with numbers those who governed before us.”

“I want to measure with numbers who built more schools in this country, who took more care of the poor, who built more roads, more bridges, more minimum wages. That’s what I want to measure, that counts in the results of governance”, he stated.

The statement was made during a ceremony to publicize the Highway Concession Contracts Optimization Program, at Palácio do Planalto.

On Tuesday (19), the PF carried out an attempt to act in a coup d’état plan in Brazil, at the end of 2022, which would involve killing the PT member, Alckmin and the minister, of the (Supreme Federal Court).

The information released by the PF this Tuesday points for the first time to an operational plan for a coup d’état articulated by members of the Bolsonaro government.

Previous phases of the investigation had already indicated discussions about coup drafts and pressure on the heads of the Armed Forces to support an institutional rupture.

Government members, despite knowing about their opponents’ coup intentions so that they would not take office in 2023, were taken by surprise with the assassination plan.

After the event this Thursday (21), minister Renan Filho spoke about the topic, and linked the fact that Brazil receives less investment with the political instability caused by the predecessor government.

“Lula said, in his speech, that when he was re-elected, the main promise he made to the Brazilian people was to rescue democratic normality. To rescue the fulfillment of the role of institutions,” he said.

“And this is certainly very relevant in terms of ensuring a favorable environment for private investment. Because no one invests their resources in a country that attacks its own institutions. That encourages fights, that plans a coup. Much less that even plans to murder its its own democratically elected leaders. That’s why Brazil had less capacity to receive investments in a very recent period in the past”, he added.
