With online voting for the first time, the São Paulo legal profession will choose this Thursday (21) who will lead the organization for the next three years, after a short campaign marked by personal attacks and accusations of political and ideological influence.
In total, responsible for the entire state, with the expectation that online voting will reduce abstention. Some of them seek to mobilize the diversity agenda as a differentiator or present themselves as “true renewal”. Two point more directly to the conservative and Bolsonarist vote.
Each has almost 200 members, with emphasis on the five positions on the board, which include president and vice-president, and candidates for federal councilor. .
The group in charge of the entity currently has lawyer Leonardo Sica, current vice-president, as its candidate. He is running for the post for the second time.
In 2018, he lost to Caio Augusto Silva dos Santos, who today represents the party that has most harassed the situation, based on a domestic violence report registered against Sica in 2010. The accusations explored on social media led to Sica’s lawsuit against Facebook for .
In a post on his networks, Carlos Kauffmann, who is now running and was president of the Ethics and Discipline Court of the section during Caio’s administration, lamented what he classified as disrespect between the two sides in this election, pointing out fights and judicialization, and argued that the Election should be based on proposals. Regarding Caio’s ticket, he also pointed out the “political use” of the entity and criticizes the fact that the ticket involves the support of two former presidents of the order, totaling almost 20 years of administration.
Caio Augusto is criticized for returning to the entity’s election after running in the 2022 elections as a federal deputy and still with public support from names in party politics, such as Marcos da Costa, secretary of the Tarcísio de Freitas government, and Marcos Pereira, president of Republicans.
Among the party’s nods to the most conservative legal profession is his vice-president, Angela Vidal Gandra Martins, former secretary of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government and a public supporter of the anti-abortion agenda.
She joined Caio’s ticket practically in the final stretch, at the beginning of October. Before that, he even accepted the invitation to join the ticket and brings with him different names linked to Bolsonarism.
Admired by Bolsonarists and with a name mentioned among those who defended a military intervention in 2022, he even recorded a video in support of Scaff, but said that after being released by him from his word, he started to support his daughter’s ticket.
With support only from the right, Scaff argues that the OAB cannot have an ideology and says that it will dialogue with everyone if elected. Among the content he has used in the campaign is a video in which he is praised by the former president.
Sica, who is the nephew of PL president Valdemar Costa Neto, criticized the opposition’s use of kinship in an interview. Throughout the campaign, however, there was an event to support his ticket with the presence of his uncle and other politicians from the party in Mogi das Cruzes.
In 2021, Patricia Vanzolini, current president, defended the banner of diversity, an issue on which two other candidates seek to take a leading role this year. Report from Folha showed thateven so, , which is made up of five members.
His deputy is professor and doctor in human rights Lucineia Rosa, who was among the black lawyers considered for Minister Rosa Weber’s vacancy at the Federal Supreme Court. And he composed with the lawyer’s group.
Lawyer Renato Ribeiro de Almeida, a specialist in electoral law, seeks to highlight that his is the only ticket with three black women on the board and claims to represent the interior of the state. He is an advisor to the Luiz Gama Institute, which has at least three other members with prominent positions in its composition.
Lawyer Paulo Quissi, who is in his third term as president of the OAB of Carapicuíba and founded the Association of Entrepreneurial Lawyers, seeks to contrast himself with the other candidates, who he links to a more elitist profile and distant from the reality of most of the legal profession.
After having two candidates in 2021, the year in which the first woman was elected to command the OAB-SP in more than 90 years of history, .
Patricia Vanzolini has appeared prominently in the situation’s campaign materials, often more prominently than the vice president.
Throughout her administration, she mobilized the , with emphasis on the lists of lawyer nominations for courts (the so-called constitutional fifth) with gender parity and racial quotas of 30%.
A support video published by Caio on his profile shows the type of criticism that is made towards these diversity flags. In the footage, the president of the Brazilian Union of Catholic Jurists says that the OAB would have become “a place for identity agendas and ideologized.”
In addition to voting for the sectional, lawyers must also choose the ticket for their subsection, which is made up of five members. With 386 groups registered, just over half of the state’s 257 subsections have just one competing.
