On a very hot afternoon this Wednesday (20), Palmeiras did not take into account Corinthians’ favoritism, reversed the disadvantage of the first game with a 2-1 victory in regulation time and won on penalties 2-0 — with a great performance by Colombian goalkeeper Katherine Tapia—to win the tri for the women’s Paulista, in a match at Brinco de Ouro da Princesa, in Campinas.

With the title, Palmeiras wins the state double for the second time, winning both the women’s and men’s divisions, repeating the feat from 2022.

Alviverde was at a disadvantage having lost the first game of the decision 1-0 at Neo Química Arena last week, a goal from midfielder Gabi Zanotti, and went in search of the result from the beginning of the match, at the same time as Corinthians he couldn’t get out of his defense field.

The first goal of the match came after 12 minutes, from the feet of striker Amanda Gutierres, who received a good pass from Brena and hit it firmly from inside the penalty area, with no chance of defense for goalkeeper Lelê.

With the goal, Amanda Gutierres isolated herself as the state’s top scorer, with eight goals. Ketlen, from Santos, comes next, with seven, and Brena, with six.

Palmeiras continued to press and scored another at 33, in a reversal of the first goal, with Amanda this time serving Brena. The goal, however, ended up being disallowed due to a handball by Dudinha at the origin of the play.

It didn’t take long for Palmeiras’ second to come, at 41, with Dudinha hitting a strong first-time shot from inside the area after a free kick.

A sign of Palmeiras’ dominance, the Alviverde team ended the first half with eight shots, against Corinthians’ zero.

In the second half, however, the black and white team came back differently and opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game, with a header from Vitória Yayá, who celebrated with his fist clenched in the air on Black Consciousness Day.

With the goal right at the beginning, the second half was much more balanced, but without any team managing to stand out, with the score unchanged until the end.

On penalties, Corinthians failed to convert once, with goalkeeper Tapia defending three charges, from Duda Sampaio, Millene and Carol Nogueira. Amanda Gutierres was also wasted when opening for Palmeiras, but Fê Palermo and Ingryd converted, guaranteeing the third state title.

Alviverde beat Paulista again after the titles in 2001 and 2022, placing themselves as Corinthians’ main opponent in the state – the Parque São Jorge club won the cup in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2023.

The black and white team was the favorite to take the cup from Paulista not only because they won the first game, but also because of their dominant performance this year.

The Brabas, as the Corinthians players are known, had already won the Copa Libertadores, the Brazilian Championship – in which they beat Palmeiras in the semi-finals – and the Brazilian Super Cup.

In recent history, Palmeiras also managed to interrupt their rival’s sequence of titles in the Libertadores, with the cup in 2022 – Corinthians won in 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2024 -, beating Boca Juniors 4-1 in the final. .

This Wednesday’s decisive match took place at the Brinco de Ouro da Princesa stadium, home of Guarani, in Campinas.

The game was taken to the interior of the state on the recommendation of the PM (Military Police) to the FPF (São Paulo Football Federation), due to the risk of confrontation between organized fans.

This is because, also this Wednesday, the men’s Corinthians hosted Cruzeiro at the Neo Química Arena in a match valid for the 34th round of the Brazilian Championship, which ended with a 2-1 victory for the black and whites.

At the end of October, Cruzeiro fans were ambushed by members of Mancha Alviverde on the Fernão Dias highway, which resulted in the death of a Cruzeiro fan and 20 injuries.
