Candidate for re-election at Palmeiras, Leila Pereira plans to sign four new players – without Gabigol among them. According to the current president, Palmeiras “is not a springboard to achieve better negotiations”.
The election for the club’s presidency will be this Sunday (24), and in her campaign, the candidate has been giving interviews that detail her plans and objectives for Verdão. Among them, some of the main ones are taking a women’s team to Barueri, transferring the stadium and CT that are currently in Jundiaí and Vinhedo, and closing a new sponsorship.
The candidate for the election justified, in an interview with Globo Esporte, the rejection she feels towards great sports stars, including the striker who recently announced his departure from Flamengo.
“I thought the proposal was unfeasible. The feeling I had was that the athlete didn’t want to go to Palmeiras. To negotiate, the athlete has to want to come, okay? He will not use Palmeiras as a springboard to achieve better negotiations”, he defended.
“When I say star, they are athletes whose focus is not on that day-to-day basis. I don’t want a player who has a parallel life, who lives at parties, that doesn’t suit the athlete, you know? This thing that sells shirts is empty talk. You can sell shirts even in the first or second month. Then, if the team doesn’t achieve anything, the sale is over,” he added.
For the “Palmeiras Campeão” ticket, Leila stated that she intends to have few exits, and focus on marketing – without dismissing the criticized director Everaldo Coelho -, finances, Olympic sports, Avanti and Allianz Parque. Another change intended by Leila is the installation of air conditioning in the club’s pools.
Along with Leila, first runner-up Maria Teresa Bellangero, second runner-up Paulo Buosi, third Everaldo Coelho and fourth Márcio Martin compete on the ticket. The other active party in the dispute is “Palmeiras Minha Vida é Você”, led by Savério Orlandi.
