Nikão, from Athletico-PR, wore a shirt printed with the Esportes da Sorte logo; bet had its contract suspended in October
During the game in the 34th round of the Brazilian Championship between Athletico-PR and Atlético-GO, the player Nikão returned to the field in the 2nd half wearing the wrong shirt. The match took place at the Ligga Arena, in Curitiba, on Wednesday (20.nov.2024). The shirt displayed the Esportes da Sorte brand, whose sponsorship has been suspended since October.
The 2nd goal in Athletico-PR’s 2-0 victory was scored by Nikão, still wearing the shirt with advertising suspended. Despite the efforts of the team and the coaching staff to alert him about the error, the change only took place after the celebration, when the player Fernandinho informed Nikão about wearing the wrong shirt.
The suspension of the contract with Esportes da Sorte took place after investigations into the “Integration” operation in September this year, against a criminal organization specializing in illegal gambling and money laundering, which investigated the involvement of online betting houses in sponsoring Brazilian clubs. Athletico’s bookmaker was not authorized to operate in Brazil, which led the club to interrupt the brand’s exposure.
