The one ratified this Tuesday by Vladimir Putin continues to provoke reactions. The last one has arrived from Poland, where Szymon Holownia, el mariscal del Sejm (the Lower House of Poland), has questioned the modification approved by Russia.
Holownia has highlighted that the previous Russian nuclear doctrine already allowed the use of this type of weaponry and that decision has not been made: “As far as I remember, these conditions for the use of tactical nuclear weapons (until now in force) in the Russian nuclear doctrine had already been fulfilled when there was an attack from Ukraine against Russian positions within the borders ofFor example, Kursk region.
Consequently, the Marshal of the Sejm has indicated that this change in Russian nuclear doctrine is really due to the fact that “Putin is trying to show that he is reacting to President Biden’s decision to allow Ukrainians to respond to attacks that affect Ukrainian homes, Ukrainian settlements, deep in Ukrainian territory.”
In fact, Szymon Holownia has expressed that “I have my doubts that anyone in the world would decide to use a nuclear arsenalbecause the use of a nuclear arsenal by any of the actors is to trigger a chain reaction in uncontrolled conditions.”
In this sense, the Polish politician has warned that “Putin’s decision to launch a nuclear waror even specific attacks with tactical nuclear weapons, will receive a harsh response from the Alliance and the international community. Putin will have a nuclear war not in Ukraine, he will have it perhaps at home. Or a massive war of a conventional nature.”
