Investigation in progress

This content is about a fact that is still being investigated by the editorial team. We will have more information soon.

Lawyer Cézar Bittencourt, who defends lieutenant colonel Mauro Cid, said this Friday (22) that the military confirmed to the Federal Police and Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), that former president Jair Bolsonaro ( PL) knew about the entire alleged coup d’état plan which, according to the investigation, would also see the execution of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) and the magistrate himself.

The investigations based, in part, on the plea bargain signed by him with the authorities, led to the indictment of Bolsonaro and 36 other people this Thursday (21).

“Yes confirmed [que Bolsonaro sabia do plano]he has a line of thought, the true version of the facts. It has no interest other than responding to what justice is asking for. He participated as an advisor, checked and even indicated his boss who would have leadership of the facts”, he said in an interview with GloboNews.

Bolsonaro “commanded the organization”, says lawyer

According to Cezar Bittencourt, Mauro Cid “confirms that [Bolsonaro] yes I knew [do plano de golpe de Estado]. In fact, the president at the time knew everything, in fact he was the person who commanded this organization. So much so that he ended up being denounced, so we can see how the Public Prosecutor’s Office filed a complaint for these facts.”

He went so far as to indicate that Bolsonaro would also be aware of Lula’s execution plan, but then retreated and stated that “I didn’t say death plan, execution plan, execution as being the death plan. I spoke about the execution of the planned plan, imagined, developed, in this sense. […] I don’t know what kind of scam it could be. Now, [Bolsonaro] was interested in the event that was happening those days, the president knew it.”

The lawyer stated that Cid was a direct advisor to the former president – he was aide-de-camp throughout his term –, but that he has no further details beyond the meetings he participated in, such as the one held in mid-July 2022 and which was leaked to the press. At the time, some ministers proposed action before the elections.

“He [Cid] Yes, he confirmed all the facts, the decision, and indicated what type of infraction he had committed. Yesterday [quinta, 21] It was just the culmination of these facts, now the conclusion must go to the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to prepare in a week, it will probably need 60 to 90 days to analyze the more than 800 pages of procedure”, he amended.

Mauro Cid gave a statement to Moraes for more than three hours at the time the Federal Police sent the report with Bolsonaro’s indictment to the STF, and even asked for the annulment of the plea bargain on suspicion of omission of information.

Operation Countercoup launched last Tuesday (19), which arrested four military personnel and a federal police officer, was based on data that he had deleted from his devices, but that others under investigation gave evidence in previous statements – which led the PF to determine a more detailed expertise that recovered this information.

Cezar Bittencourt says that he instructed Cid to tell Moraes what he knew, about the facts he knew. “There is no point sugarcoating the pill, no matter who it hurts, you will have to tell the truth, what you know, even for your own benefit”, he said about the audience with Moraes.

Still during the interview, Bittencourt said that Cid spoke about former minister Walter Braga Netto to Moraes, that he “was one of the most important in the Court, he had permanent contact with the president”, but he avoided pointing out what his participation was. in the alleged coup plan.

For the Federal Police, Braga Netto was a key player and would have carried out the organization of the plan.

According to him, Cid has already told the court everything he knew about the plans, and he was very nervous on the day of the hearing with Moraes – which was very tough –, but the plea was maintained. However, he said he did not have an estimate of when the trial would take place, possibly only in mid-2025 according to what he heard in the media.
