The Comptroller General of the Union (CGU) confirmed this Friday (22) the dismissal for just cause of the former vice-president of Caixa, Antônio Carlos de Sousa, for the practice of moral and sexual harassment against employees between the years 2021 and 2022 .
According to the CGU, the acts were proven by an internal investigation and occurred in the bank’s vice-presidencies of Strategy and People (VIEPE) and Logistics and Operations (VILOP), reported through a secure internal channel.
“The complaints pointed to persecution of employees, unjustified removal from office and repeated practices of sexual harassment,” said the CGU. THE People’s Gazette tries to contact Sousa’s defense for clarification. Caixa was also contacted by the report.
The dismissal for just cause of Antônio Carlos de Sousa was published in this Friday’s edition (22) of the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) and points to the impediment of holding effective positions and in commissions or positions of trust in the Executive Branch for eight years () .
“According to the investigation, moral harassment manifested itself through disrespectful treatment, constant humiliation, threats and embarrassment to workers. Sexual harassment included conduct such as inappropriate compliments, sexual insinuations and insistent invitations, creating intimidation and discomfort for the victims,” the CGU added in a statement.
Still in 2022, Sousa had left the vice-presidency of Logistics and Operations amid the first allegations and returned to internal positions, as he was a career employee at the bank. He had been appointed by the then president of Caixa, .
Guimarães was appointed to preside over Caixa at the beginning of the former president’s (PL) government and was considered one of the closest allies. In his resignation letter, he stated that he would leave his position to “defend himself against the evils launched against me, with the calm hearts of those who do not fear what they did not do”.
