Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the English club until 2027, the Premier League champions confirmed on Thursday.
The Spanish coach’s decision means he will spend more than a decade at the club he took over in 2016. There, Guardiola secured an impressive list of trophies, including six national championship titles and one European Champions Cup.
The news will be welcomed by City fans, who feared the “Guardiola era” was nearing an end with his contract expiring at the end of this season.

“Manchester City means so much to me,” said the 53-year-old, who also successfully managed Barcelona and Bayern Munich, in a statement.
“It will be my ninth season here. We experienced so many fantastic moments together. I feel something very special about this football club, and that’s why I’m so happy to stay for two more years”, he added.
Guardiola took over Abu Dhabi-owned City in 2016 and transformed the team into a title machine.

He led City to 18 major cups and established a style of football that is admired around the world. This season, however, the team is going through a bad phase and has had four consecutive defeats, the worst period since its arrival.
“Like every City fan, I am very happy that Pep’s journey with Manchester City will continue; which will ensure that his dedication, passion and innovative thinking continue to determine the future of football,” City board chief Khaldoon Al Mubarak said in a statement.
