The Las Vegas GP is getting closer and closer, and the first training sessions have started to show results. Until then, the names in the lead are, in addition to being known, expected – in the second free practice, Lewis Hamilton finished as leader, as in the first practice, and was followed by Lando Norris and George Russell.
With a time of 1m33s825, Hamilton led this Friday (22) for Mercedes, which completed its team with Russell in the top 3. Hot in the competition on every lap, the team had good results on both the medium and soft tires.
Going head to head with Mercedes, comes Ferrari, which in part of the training sessions took the lead with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. The next meeting between the drivers will be tonight, at 11:30 pm, in the third free practice.
How was the training
The race started with Magnussen, followed by Gasly, Russell and Hamilton on the medium tires. Fifteen minutes later, the best lap was already in possession of Leclerc, who continued like this until halfway through training.
During the brief break, the cars went to the pits and returned for around 30 minutes of practice, when Mercedes decided to return their cars with soft tires. That was when Russell regained first position, with Hamilton close behind.
In the second part of FP2, Norris did best, with the best provisional lap – still very close to Russell, just 0s1 behind. However, Lando was hampered by an interruption caused by a faulty fuel system in Alexander Albon’s Williams.
