Ukraine currently continues to administer part of the Kursk Oblast despite Russian attempts to dislodge Kyiv’s forces.
The governor of Russia’s Kursk region, Alexei Smirnov, said on Friday that 46 Russian civilians detained by Ukraine had returned to Russia. The decision was made after negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow. TASR informs about it based on a Reuters report.
According to Smirnov, the civilians, including 12 children, were moved by Ukrainian troops to their territory after Kyiv launched a cross-border offensive in the border Kursk region in August.
Ukraine currently continues to administer part of the region despite Russian attempts to dislodge Kyiv’s forces. According to an army source, it is an area of 800 square kilometers, writes AFP. “The maximum area of the territory that we occupied in the Kursk region was originally 1376 square kilometers. Currently, it is about 800 square kilometers,” the source specified, adding that the units would remain in the area as long as necessary.
