The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, stated that the new container terminal that will be installed at the Port of Suape, in Pernambuco, will boost the internationalization of the state’s economy. “We could have growth of more than 40% in the volume of imports and exports,” he said.
The projection was made by Costa Filho during the event to launch the cornerstone of APM Terminals Suape.
The company will invest R$1.6 billion to build the terminal, which will increase container handling capacity in Suape by 55%.

“It is investments like this that come to strengthen Porto. Our goal is to make Suape grow 5% this year, which will result in more jobs and income for Pernambuco”, stated the minister, who is from Pernambuco.
According to Costa Filho, 2024 will end as the best year in history in terms of volume of investments signed for the port sector. The value exceeds R$30 billion.
The event to launch the foundation stone of APM Terminals was also attended by other authorities in the sector such as the general director of the National Waterway Transport Agency (Antaq), Eduardo Nery.

In a speech, he stated that the country is already facing a deficit in port capacity and, therefore, highlighted the importance of building the new terminal in Suape.
