The mayor of , (PSD), got involved this Friday (22) in a virtual discussion with senator Sérgio Moro (União-PR), who came out in defense of the dismissed judge Marcelo Bretas, partner in leading the developments of .
Paes called the two delinquents in a discussion started by a post by Bretas about President Lula (PT), vice-president Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) and STF (Supreme Federal Court) minister Alexandre de Moraes.
The virtual debate on X originated from a post by Bretas on Thursday (21), in which the dismissed judge talks about attempted crime and voluntary withdrawal.
The judge does not make direct reference to the investigation into the murder plan, but states that the legislation “guides that no human thought or desire can be considered criminal, unless it manifests itself and causes unfair conduct that harms a legal good.” The thesis of absence of infringement was also raised by senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ).
Paes replicated Bretas’ message with the text: “Delinquent being delinquent”. Moro responded to the mayor: “Delinquents were his friends that he arrested.”
The mayor then started attacking the two Lava Jato drivers.
“You two are an example of what the Judiciary should not be. You destroyed the fight against the Judiciary thanks to your political ambition. You even got a job as Minister of Justice and went further in politics. This one [Bretas] not even that. He was despised by himself [Jair] Bolsonaro who made electoral use of his positions. And the person who told me this was the former president himself. Retreat to your insignificance. You don’t grow here! Trash!”
Paes is one of those responsible for Bretas’ removal from the 7th Federal Criminal Court of Rio de Janeiro, where he led the Rio de Janeiro Lava Jato. He accused the magistrate at the CNJ (National Council of Justice) of acting in a political manner in processes that dealt with corruption of public agents during his first two terms as head of city hall.
The representation was one of the three that led to Bretas’ temporary removal, in February 2023. The CNJ has not yet concluded the investigations.
