Lovers of snow and winter sports in alpine regions have reason to rejoice. Meteorologists are expecting heavy snowfall and have issued several warnings. Ski areas can thus start the season, writes the portal a.
“A strong cold front will bring not only rain and strong winds, but also a lot of snow, even in lower areas. Up to 50 centimeters of snow is expected in Vorarlberg, North Tyrol and South Carinthia,” writes the Austrian portal. The winter in the Alps has been mild so far, but everything changed on Thursday, November 21.
Snow warnings also apply in Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy. “In a few hours, 10 to 20 centimeters of fresh snow will fall. Especially at higher altitudes, around 30 centimeters may fall,” the Austrian Hydrometeorological Institute reported.
Among the ski resorts that have already decided to start the season are: in Italy the Sulden, Cervinia – Breui, Val Senales / Schnalstal areas, in Austria up to 12 resorts are open as of November 22, and in the Czech Republic the MonĂnec ski slope is already operational. We cannot yet look forward to the start of the ski season in Slovakia or Poland, reports the portal.
However, the cooling and snow does not only affect the Alps. A cold front with polar air is passing through Europe, which is felt especially by central Europe. In the Tatras, temperatures can drop to -15 degrees Celsius over the weekend.
