PSD did not pay rent for two years and could be evicted from Lamego

The president of the PSD, Luís Montenegro

Social Democratic headquarters in Lamego faces eviction action due to debt of just over 3000 euros in rent. Local structures do not have legal personality or financial autonomy.

Lamego’s PSD is at the center of an eviction action, due to non-payment of rent for two years, worth 3150 eurosadvances this Thursday.

Although the debt was recently paid off, after the case became public, the legal action remains ongoing, as the contract ended in the summer and the owner wants to recover the property.

The eviction action mirrors management problems in local party structureswhich do not have legal personality or financial autonomy, reports the morning newspaper.

The accumulated debt refers to a contract starting in September 2022, with a monthly income of 150 eurossigned between the owner and the PSD, represented by Hugo Maravilha. Despite the property being used by the party for decades, the payments were often irregularoften resolving without resorting to litigation.

The situation worsened when the rent arrears reached almost two yearsand the owner decided to take legal action.

“It is true that he owed 22 months of rent and that the claim was for around three thousand euros. We have already paid the arrears and it was paid off by December”, he assured JN Maravilha. “The problem is that municipal companies have no legal personality, no financial autonomy, no bank account or CPF to make commitments. Only the district ones have it”, he explained.

Maravilha suggests that, if the values of militant quotas were administered directly by municipalities, similar problems could be avoided in the future.

The lawyer also argues that the opposition to the eviction action is justified, arguing that the property needs work and that the party does not have the legitimacy to bind the national PSDB.

And this is not an isolated case within the PSDB. In 2012, the party faced executive action in Almada over a rent debt, attributed to embezzlement by a former local leader. More recently, in 2022, the party, with eight months of rent arrears.
