Ukrainian president says Vladimir Putin intimidates Ukraine’s allies and “terrorizes” civilians
The President of Ukraine, (Servant of the People, center), stated that the use of an experimental ballistic missile by the Russian army represents a “clear and severe escalation” in the war between the 2 countries. The Ukrainian called for strong global condemnation.
NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) accused Russian President Vladimir Putin (United Russia, center) of intimidating Ukraine’s allies and “terrorize” civilians. Farah Dakhlallah, spokesperson for the entity, stated that “the deployment of this (ballistic missile) capability will not change the course of the conflict nor prevent NATO allies from supporting Ukraine”.
Last Thursday (November 21, 2024) the Russian president spoke about the launch of a new model of medium-range missile against Ukraine. “In response to the use of American and British long-range weapons, on November 21 of this year, the Russian Armed Forces launched a combined attack on one of the objects of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex”these.
“One of the newest Russian medium-range missile systems has been tested in combat conditions, in this case with a ballistic missile equipped with non-nuclear hypersonic equipment. Our rocket scientists called it ‘Oreshnik’”said Putin. The United States military stated that the missile launched by Russia was based on the long-range RS-26 Rubezh intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) design.
Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said the missile was fired with a conventional warhead, but that Russia could modify it if it wished. “It could be remodeled to carry different types of conventional or nuclear warheads”he stated.
After the Russian launch, Zelensky stated that the “crazy neighbor” from Ukraine “He showed once again who he really is and how he despises dignity, freedom and human life in general.”
The Ukrainian president said there was, “at this moment”, no “strong reaction” from other countries. “Putin is very sensitive to this. He is testing you, dear partners. He must be stopped. The lack of harsh reactions to Russia’s actions sends a message that such behavior is acceptable. This is what Putin is doing”he declared.
Stéphane Dujarric, spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, stated that Russia’s new medium-range ballistic missile is a “worrying development” of conflicts. He urged both parties to avoid escalation to “protect civilians and not target critical civilian infrastructure.”.
The former head of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, who now serves as the country’s ambassador in London, Valery Zalujny, said the Russian attack represented the start of a Third World War. “I believe that in 2024, we can absolutely assume that World War 3 has already begun. Because in 2024 it is no longer just Russia that faces Ukraine”, he said, referring to Russia’s alliances with North Korea and Iran. He further accused China of providing “pumps and parts” to the Russians.
