Portugal is seen as a safe country and this is the calling card that makes many tourists choose our country as a holiday destination. However, within Portugal, there are more and less safe municipalities. Therefore, to present the list of the most dangerous municipalities in the country, we used data related to the crime rate. In the top10 of the most dangerous municipalities, two of them are in the Algarve.
The Algarve is one of the favorite regions of tourists who come to Portugal and is home to the most dangerous municipality in the country. We talk about Albufeira. The portal published data from the National Statistics Institute (INE), which warns of the fact that Albufeira is the municipality with the highest crime rate. This municipality in the Algarve records 92.6 crimes per thousand inhabitants.
Crimes against property are the most common in Balneário (44.7 per thousand inhabitants), followed by crimes against physical integrity (10.3 per thousand inhabitants). The second most dangerous municipality in the country is Mourão, in Agreste, where crimes against property and physical integrity are also prominent.
Closing the podium in this table is another Algarve municipality, this time Loulé. It is worth noting that the municipalities of Lisbon and Porto only appear in 6th and 8th place, respectively, with regard to the highest crime rate. Página Um also states that the biggest problem in Lisbon and Porto is not related to crimes against physical integrity.
In the case of these two municipalities, what makes them dangerous are crimes against property, including theft and robbery.
