Registration is now open for the 1st Acre Food and Nutrition Congress (CAAN), which will take place between December 9th and 12th at the University Theater of the Federal University of Acre (UFAC). With the central theme “Sustainable Food and Nutrition in the Western Brazilian Amazon”, reflecting the importance of a conscious and sustainable approach in the food context of the Amazon region.
The Western Amazon is home to a rich and valuable biodiversity, essential for food and nutritional security, not only in Acre, but throughout the country. However, this natural wealth contrasts with local challenges, such as the high prevalence of food insecurity and the impacts of climate change on food production and availability. Thus, the event aims to explore strategies and public policies that align sustainable development with respect for the environment and local food culture, aiming to promote inclusive, safe and resilient nutrition.
The congress will bring together professionals, academics, public managers and civil society representatives to debate fundamental issues about healthy eating, public policies and sustainable nutrition, with a close eye on the specificities and challenges of this Amazon region.
In addition to registration for the event, submissions of academic works in the simple summary and expanded summary formats are also open.
Interested parties can submit their studies in the following thematic areas:
i. Food and Collective Feeding.
ii. Human and Social Sciences in Food and Nutrition.
iii. Epidemiology and Food and Nutrition Policies.
iv. Clinical and Sports Nutrition.
Applications for submission of works are open until November 22nd.
Organized in celebration of ten years of the Food Guide for the Brazilian Population, CAAN is also part of the VI Academic Week of Nutrition at UFAC and the II Academic Week of Nutrition at Estácio-Unimeta, creating a broad and collaborative environment for exchanging knowledge and experiences .
The event’s program includes round tables, lectures and short courses that will cover topics such as healthy eating, food sustainability, ethnonutrition and culture, clinical and sports nutrition, as well as behavioral and nutritional aspects specific to the region.
