Commonly known as Fernando “Careca”, the fugitive was in a shack, in a village called Castanheira de Chãin the municipality of Montalegre (Vila Real).

José Diasfrom Castanheira de Chã, told the morning newspaper that he had already commented, at a meeting in São Martinho, that he could be one of the fugitives from Vale de Judeus, but no one listened to him.
“I said that he seemed to me to be one of the fugitives from the Vale de Judeus prison. Nobody believed it because nobody thought a man like that would hide in a village as small as ours.“, he confessed.

The National Counterterrorism Unit (UNCT) of the Judiciary Police (PJ) confirmed, this Friday, that Fernando “Careca” will serve the rest of his sentence in Monsantoin the only high security prison in Portugal – where he also goes.
Fábio Loureiro – the first of the five fugitives to be caught in Morocco on the day – is expected to be extradited in the next few days to Portugal, completing the reunion of “escape companions”.
