The former Minister of Defense and candidate for vice on the (PL) ticket, general, refuted this Saturday (23) suspicions about his involvement in a coup plot after the victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the 2022 presidential elections.
Braga Netto spoke out through his social networks, accompanied by a note in his defense. The military said there were no plans to assassinate authorities.
“It was never a coup, much less a plan to assassinate someone,” he wrote.

The lieutenant colonel also told Alexandre de Moraes that the former minister participated in the meeting on November 12, 2022 with military personnel indicted on suspicion of participating in a coup plot to prevent Lula from taking office.

“General Braga Netto’s defense believes that compliance with the rites of due legal process will elucidate the truth of the facts and the responsibility of each entity involved in the aforementioned investigations, for their actions and omissions”, states the note.
The military’s post, as well as the note, also seek to refute the thesis that he was planning a “coup within a coup”. The general wrote that it was a “fanciful and absurd thesis”.
The defense note also adds that the general, during the last government, was one of the few who “maintained loyalty” to the then president until the end of the government, in December 2022, and has maintained it to this day. The text also adds that this positioning is due to “belief in the same non-negotiable values and principles”.

In a previous statement, the first after the indictment on Thursday, Braga Netto’s defense had stated that it “vehemently repudiates, and from the outset, the undue dissemination of information” to the press “to the detriment of due access to the parties directly involved and interested “.
