PHAC said the case is travel-related and associated with an ongoing outbreak of subtype 1 mpox in East and Central Africa. He stated that he was working in collaboration with public health authorities in Manitoba.
The agency also said that while the risk to the population of Canada is low at this time, the situation will be actively monitored. It said a public health investigation, including contact tracing, is ongoing.
