Author of the project, David Soares (União-SP) wants to encourage a reduction in vehicles on highways
The Road and Transport Committee of the Chamber of Deputies approved the bill that provides discounts on road toll rates for cars that transport more than 3 people, including the driver.
According to the text, bidding notices must, whenever technically feasible, contain a clause providing for the discount.
Author of the project, the deputy (União-SP) states that the objective is to encourage the use of vehicles with more passengers, thus reducing the number of vehicles circulating on the roads.
“With more people per vehicle, we will need fewer vehicles on the roads, causing beneficial effects for traffic users themselves and also for society as a whole”defended the author.
Rapporteur at the collegiate, the deputy (PDT-RJ) said that the idea is similar to the so-called “hot lanes”, lanes created in the USA to encourage shared travel on express highways that cross extensive urban areas.
Tavares also highlighted that the project makes it clear that the adoption of high occupancy lanes must be considered when modeling the concession, taking into account the proof of technical feasibility.
The project will also be analyzed in conclusive characterby the CCJ (Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Commission). To become law, the text needs to be approved by deputies and senators.
