The elected president of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Friday the nomination of the Republican congresswoman Lori Chavez-DeRemer as next Secretary of the Department of Laboror, in charge of supervising one of the most relevant economic statistics agencies in the country.
“I look forward to working with her to create enormous opportunities for American workers, to expand training and learning, to grow wages and improve working conditions, and to bring back our manufacturing jobs“said the tycoon on his Truth Social social network account, which he himself promulgated.
Chávez-DeRemer was the first Republican woman to represent Oregon in the US House of Representatives, but he lost his re-election bid earlier this month. In the House, he is part of the Agriculture, Education and Manpower Committees, as well as Transportation and Infrastructure, according to Bloomberg.
“She is one of the first Latinas and the first Republican woman elected for Congress from the state of Oregon. “Lori is a mother and small businesswoman,” Trump added.
If confirmed, once approved by the Senate, will be responsible for managing Trump’s relationship with the unionsespecially after the Republican managed to attract the support of union voters during his 2024 campaign.
The Department of Labor, under his leadership, would be responsible for administering federal laws that protect labor rightssuch as the minimum wage and unemployment insurance.
