Extremely revealing, talking about his life in Spain with his then wife, Despina Vandi, while for the first time he clarified the reason he returned to Greece very soon, in the new video he uploaded to his Instagram account.
“I thought about leaving Greece and living abroad. It crossed my mind but, many years ago. When I left Greece to play in Spain, in Atlético Madrid, I thought about staying there. This thought lasted 2-3 months. Then, for non-football reasons I wanted to return.
It’s not that I missed Greece and that’s why I came back. I came back because I wanted to help my team. I could stay in Spain because the Spanish were more… They were kind of like the Greeks but much kinder. And it still is. I have been impressed by many examples of Spaniards. They are a little slower than us, but they are kinder and more methodical” says Demis Nikolaidis initially and continued,
“We always think of ourselves as smarter. But at the same time we are other things that are being fixed. Each generation is better than the last or so I want to believe, or so I want to see them. The new kids are nicer than we are. More sociable people than my generation was.
Since then, in 2003 and after, I never thought about leaving Greece to live abroad.”
