The Čertovica mountain pass will be closed to all traffic on the night from Saturday to Sunday (November 24). The reason is the stress test of the bridge in the cadastre of the village of Jarabá in the district of Brezno. Drivers will have to use detour routes through Donovaly or the Vernár mountain pass.
Road I/72 leading through Čertovica will be closed from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. in the morning. Only vehicles with an integrated rescue system will have an exception to drive through the section. For trucks, a detour through Donovaly is recommended, cars can use the Vernár mountain pass.
“Drivers will be notified of detours and road closures with traffic signs. Traffic signs will be placed in Banská Bystrica on the bypass, on first-class roads in the Breznian district and in the Liptovský Mikuláš district and on the D1 highway,” explained the director of the Regional Traffic Inspectorate in Banská Bystrica, Vladimír Farkaš.
According to the latest traffic count, approximately 5,000 vehicles pass through Čertovica in 24 hours, of which over 650 are freight vehicles. The mountain pass will be closed on Saturday for a stress test of the bridge behind Jaraba, which underwent a complex reconstruction in recent months. The work was aimed at strengthening and rehabilitation of the supporting structure, the costs exceeded 1.7 million euros including VAT.
