The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes (PSD)and the senator Sergio Moro (União Brasil-PR) led a debate on platform X (formerly Twitter) this Friday morning (22), involving the dismissed judge Marcelo Bretas, who worked in Operation Lava Jato.

The dispute between Marcelo Bretas and Eduardo Paes involved accusations and investigations that impacted both of them. Bretas was removed from his duties by the CNJ in 2023, due to alleged irregularities, including favoritism in processes and personal promotion.

The episode intensified the rivalry between the two, as Bretas had allowed investigations against Paes. The mayor, in turn, pointed out errors in the judge’s decisions, which led to his removal from the 7th Federal Criminal Court of Rio de Janeiro. The process remains under analysis.
