F1: como ficou o grid de largada do GP de Las Vegas? image

Briton George Russell, from Mercedes, will start on pole at the F1 Las Vegas GP – this Sunday (24/11), at 3am (Brasília time). In the early hours of this Saturday, he set the best time in qualifying training: 1m32s312. He was followed by Carlos Sainz, from Ferrari, and Pierre Gasly, from Alpine.

It is the third time this year that Russell has managed to start at the front in 2024. He had done the same in the Canadian and British GPs. In none of them, however, did he achieve victory.

Max Verstappen, who can confirm the season title in Las Vegas, starts fifth. His competitor, Lando Norris, starts in sixth.

How Verstappen can be champion in Las Vegas

Max Verstappen could be Formula 1 champion for the fourth consecutive time this weekend, at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

The victory in Brazil left Verstappen 62 points ahead of Nando Norris in the Drivers’ Championship with three races remaining on the calendar: Las Vegas, Qatar on December 1 and Abu Dhabi on December 8.

If Verstappen guarantees a distance of at least 60 points ahead of Norris in Las Vegas, the Dutchman will already be the Formula 1 champion in 2024. In other words, the McLaren driver needs to win and seek first place to maintain his mathematical chances alive.

For Verstappen, the math is simple: if he finishes ahead of Norris in any position that provides points, or if both fail to score, the Dutchman will be champion. The title will be confirmed in favor of the Red Bull driver if Norris finishes ninth without the fastest lap (two points) or tenth (one point).

The title will also go to Verstappen if he finishes behind Norris in third or fourth position with the fastest lap. If Norris finishes one position ahead of Verstappen between fourth and eighth place without the fastest lap, the championship will also be over, as the difference would be just two points.

To extend the Drivers’ World Championship to Qatar, Norris needs to score at least three more points than Verstappen.

If the championship arrives in Qatar alive, then Norris will need to eliminate a 26-point gap over Verstappen for the world championship to be decided in Abu Dhabi.
