“What drives me to do this is my desire to overcome myself physically, but mainly psychologically, as well as my love for wild nature”, says Fábio, from Torres Vedras, who will donate one euro for every kilometer driven.
Fábio Inácio is not new to these adventures. In 2019, he walked 4,300 kilometers of the Pacific Crest Trail in 108 days, becoming one of the first Portuguese people to do so. Five years later, the challenge is “tougher physically and psychologically”, admits Fábio, who wants to complete an 8,600 km adventure in eight months, passing through five continents.
Nepal, New Zealand, the United States, Morocco and, finally, Portugal: this is the plan of the 39-year-old traveler, born in Torres Vedras. The walk began on November 5th in Nepal and Fábio shares videos every day on his Instagram account.
“What drives me to do this is my desire to overcome physically, but mainly psychologically, as well as my love for wild nature”, says the Portuguese.
There is yet another objective linked to the 8,600-kilometer adventure. For every km travelled, Fábio wants to donate one euro to support Rewilding Portugal, which works to conserve nature in Portugal. Donations can be made digitally through the “” platform.
“I love nature and spend as much time as I can walking or playing sports at sea. One of the most beautiful things is animal life and as soon as I discovered Rewilding Portugal I was hooked on the work they do in reintroducing species. Nature needs all our support”, says Fábio.
The first phase of the walk is expected to include almost 500 kilometers. It all started in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, and the objective is to reach Everest base camp. Afterwards, Fábio will fly to New Zealand, in December, to do “Te Araroa”, a 3,000km trail that passes through two islands in the country.
Without making any big plans, which is already customary on his trips around the world, the traveler wants to spend three months in New Zealand and head to the United States and Morocco, where he will hike in the Atlas Mountains. The last destination will be Portugal, where he intends to celebrate his 40th birthday.
