Bombing hit an 8-story residential building in the center of the Lebanese capital; Teams are still searching for victims at the scene
An air attack carried out by Israel in the capital of Lebanon, this Saturday (Nov 23, 2024) hit a residential building and killed at least 11 people, leaving another 33 injured, according to the local Civil Defense.
“The capital Beirut woke up to a horrible massacre. Israeli aviation completely destroyed an 8-story residential building with the help of 5 missiles.”said the official news agency NNA. According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, rescue teams are still searching for survivors in the rubble, as shown in the video below.

The missiles used by the Israeli Army were aimed at hitting structures belonging to Hezbollah, supported by Iran. According to the agency Reutersthe bombs used by Israeli forces had the ability to penetrate bunkers. The attacks left a deep crater. According to the agency, after the explosions it was possible to smell a strong smell of explosives in the region.
“Not last day, IAF conducted intelligence-based attacks against Hezbollah terrorist targets in Dahieh, a key Hezbollah stronghold in Beirut. Targets included several Hezbollah command centers, weapons storage facilities, and additional terrorist infrastructure. Hezbollah has deliberately embedded its infrastructure in these civilian areas, using the Lebanese civilian population as a human shield.”says a statement from the Israel Defense Forces.
This was the 4th Israeli air strike in the country this week. Last Friday (Nov 22), Israeli ground troops clashed with members of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. The Lebanese Health Minister reported that another attack on the same day in the northeastern province of Baalbek hit a residence near the Dar Al-Amal university hospital and killed the hospital director and six of his colleagues. Last Sunday (Nov 17), an airstrike killed a senior Hezbollah media official in the Ras al-Nabaa district.
“The attacks were directed against Hezbollah’s terrorist infrastructure and are part of the IDF’s ongoing efforts to degrade Hezbollah’s ability to carry out terrorist attacks against Israel and to dismantle weapons production and storage facilities that Hezbollah has established throughout of the years in the Dahieh area”said a statement from the Israel Defense Forces.
The White House announced on Friday (Nov 22) that the President of the United States, Joe Biden, and the French head of state, Emmanuel Macron, discussed the efforts “to secure a ceasefire agreement in Lebanon that will allow residents on both sides of the Blue Line to return safely to their homes”.
