Man who set fire to bus with 40 people boarded illegally

The 40-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Friday (22/11), in Cajati, in the interior of . Authorities found that he was inside the vehicle illegally.

The bus was traveling between São Paulo and Curitiba and was destroyed by the fire. Nobody was injured. According to the (PRF), the fire started around 5:30 am.

According to the (SSP), he was arrested on BR-116. PRF agents who were called to the incident found that, after setting the fire, the suspect had fled.

Police found the man at a gas station, about 3 kilometers from the scene of the fire. He was arrested and taken to the police unit.

Witnesses pointed out that the fire was caused by the man who locked himself in the bathroom and started the flames. Passengers managed to break down the door and remove the suspect, but the fire had already spread throughout the bus. All occupants managed to get out of the vehicle safely, but during the confusion, the suspect fled the scene.

The police authority represented preventive arrest and the case was registered as a fire at the Cajati Police Station, said the SSP, in a note.
