Pilea is an extremely charming potted plant. As a window sill decoration, it pleases with its round shiny leaves that look like coins. It is not difficult to grow, but there are periods when its condition suddenly deteriorates. Are you wondering why pilea loses its leaves? Do you want to know how to restore her health and stimulate her growth? Find out which homemade food is best for her.

Why does pilea lose its leaves and not grow new ones?

Pileaalso known as the money plant, is one of the most popular houseplants. It owes its popularity to easy care and extremely attractive, almost perfectly round leaves that look like coins. They are the biggest decoration of the pilea, but sometimes they fall off the plant. Pilea loses its leaves for several reasons:

  • waterlogging – pilea does not like excess water in the soil and in such conditions it loses its leaves. Water it only when the top layer of soil in the pot dries;
  • cold water for watering – these plants should not be watered with cold water straight from the tap;
  • moving from one place to another – frequent changes of location, which cause fluctuations in temperature, light and humidity, are harmful to the plant. Move her only in necessary cases and leave her alone to get used to the new place. Pileams are suitable for both sunny and semi-shady window sills. However, do not place them in complete shade;
  • frequent transplanting – it is advisable to transplant the pileus every year, but not more often, because it’s stressful for her. Fortunately, the shock is a temporary condition, and after adaptation to the new conditions, her health will return;
  • low humidity – if the apartment is too dry, pilea can lose its leaves. To avoid this, it is good to place it on a tray with water and pebbles or buy an air humidifier;
  • insufficient fertilization – pilea is not particularly voracious, but lack of nutrients can cause loss of leaves and slow down its growth.

Homemade food for pileus

Pilea, which loses its leaves, looks worse and worse over time. If you want to restore its vitality and healthy appearance, avoid the above-mentioned care mistakes. It is worth focusing especially on the correct fertilization of pilea. Although there are many preparations available in stores that you can use, the best is a natural fertilizer. In the case of dying pilea, it can do real miracles, because it stops the process of falling leaves and stimulates the growth of new ones. You just need banana peels and water.

How to make homemade food for pileus? We have two methods to choose from:

  • Liquid fertilizer cut the peels of 2-3 bananas into pieces 3-5 cm long and cover with 1 liter of water. Leave for 1-2 days and then pour through a sievewhile separating the soaked residues. Use the liquid to water the files;
  • Powder fertilizer cut the peels of several bananas into small pieces. Place them on a tray lined with baking paper, leave space between them. Place in the oven and dry at a temperature of 50°C for several hours (you can also use a mushroom dryer). After that grind the dry peels into a powder in a food processor, coffee grinder or blender. Store in an airtight container. Use 1 tablespoon of the powder mixed with 1 glass of water to fertilize the pilea.

Both liquid and powder nutrition for pileus can be applied every 2 weeks. Be sure to always pour off the excess fertilizer from the plate after treatment, which will flow through the holes in the pot.

Sprinkle it with water and the pile will be as good as new! It will raise its stems to the sun and many fresh leaves will grow from them
