The president of RussiaVladimir Putin, has forbidden this Saturday by law adoption of russian children to citizens from countries where sex change is allowedamong them Spain.

Under the law promulgated on Saturday by Putin, citizens of countries that allow sex change through medical treatment, whether or not it includes a surgical operation, or changing the gender on identity documents, will be prevented from adopting.

“We have to protect the little ones who cannot protect themselves,” said the president of the Russian Duma or chamber of deputies, Viacheslav Volodin, when parliamentarians approved the law that “aims (…) exclude any possibility of adoption of Russian children by representatives of LGBT communities“.

Volodin has mentioned twelve countries, among them Italy and Spainwhich at the time led the number of adoptions of Russian childrenbut also Germany, Belgium or Switzerlandfor allowing the change of sex among minors, a policy that has been described as “disastrous.”

“A foreigner who has adopted a Russian child can, after returning to the territory of his country, change the sex, but the worst thing is that he can also change the sex of the adopted child,” he stated.

Last September, Duma Deputy Speaker Anna Kuznetsova revealed that foreign adoptions had completely ceased after adopting more than 100,000 Russian minors over the previous 30 years.

The Russian authorities began to tighten adoption requirements in 2011 for countries that had legalized gay marriage and those who were forced to sign bilateral agreements.
