Britain has pulled out of one of the royal family’s biggest annual events this evening as it continues to deal with , a Buckingham spokesman said today.
Camilla, aged 77, was due to attend the Royal Variety Performance at the Royal Albert Hall in central London with her husband King Charles, but he will now go to the charity show alone.
“The Queen continues to experience some lingering post-viral symptoms, with doctors recommending that after a busy week, Her Majesty prioritizes getting enough rest,” the spokesperson said.
A respiratory infection in the first week of November forced Camilla to cancel a series of engagements for several days, but she has since returned to her official duties.
A royal family source said there was no cause for concern, but given the length of the show, she had decided to follow medical advice not to strain her body.
The Queen is “of course disappointed to miss tonight’s events and sends her sincere apologies to everyone involved, but she firmly believes that ‘the show must go on,'” added the source.
