Even though a healthy person can resist mold longer than sick or sensitive individuals, mold poses specific health risks. So it is by no means just about the cleanliness and nice appearance of the curtains. The mold must go!
Do you prefer a cold or a warm bathroom?
During the colder part of the year, households often suffer from a lack of ventilation and limited air circulation. It’s clear that having the windows wide open, even in a tiny bathroom, is unbearable at some point. However, the comfort and warmth of the home takes its toll, with mold growing in various corners of our homes. An ideal such space is the bathroom and typically also the shower curtain.
You can learn how to deal with dirty and often moldy shower curtains in this post from Sherls Corner’s YouTube channel. In the case of pure white curtains, this can be quite difficult.

How to get rid of mold on the bathroom curtain?
Shower curtains are of course practical and easily belong to the simplest, cheapest and easiest to install screen that will prevent the surrounding floors from getting wet. It goes without saying that curtains will get wet whether water is splashed on them or not. Curtains can change color slightly, but they mainly suffer from mold, which occurs mainly in the lower hem of the curtain and in places where moisture stays for a long time. How to remove mold?
Bleach or vinegar or its combination with baking soda can help, as well as toothpaste. Why that one? It is easy to work with, you can easily dose it, you can apply it with your fingers, a brush or a sponge.
The paste does not run and has an ideal consistency. Whitening pastes are very suitable for textile curtains, which will also help restore the original color of the textile. You can leave the paste on the curtain for as long as you like, a minimum of 10 to 15 minutes is recommended.
If you don’t want to scrub the paste from the curtain by hand, you can wash the entire curtain as it is, even with the drying paste, in the washing machine. After washing, the curtain will not only be clean, but also the menthol aroma is very pleasant and gives a real feeling of cleanliness.
Removing visible stains from mold can be difficult, especially if the mold has been on the fabric for a very long time and the curtain is light-colored or straight white. If even toothpaste did not provide satisfactory results, you can try a very strong mixture of vinegar, hydrogen peroxide and baking soda in approximately equal proportions. Leave the mixture on the curtain for 20 minutes and then scrub the curtain with a brush and wash well.
Do not forget that the curtains are mostly made of synthetic materials and should therefore be washed gently and at a maximum temperature of 40 °C.
Stop mold in the shower
If you struggle with mold and the unsightly appearance of the shower curtain too often, pay attention to ventilation and sufficient drying of the bathroom.
If you like curtains and you don’t want to give them up, it’s better to invest in waterproof and antibacterial ones that are treated with special substances. However, remember that sometimes these protective layers need to be renewed, such as when you impregnate your shoes from time to time.
