Government gave approval for 2,300 police officers to be allocated to the sector to release active officers onto the streets
The Government of São Paulo authorized the hiring of 2,300 military police officers who retired and went into reserve. They will be assigned to work in administrative positions within the corporation in internal activities. The hiring allows active police officers, who currently perform this bureaucratic function in PM units, to reinforce policing on the streets, increasing the number of personnel throughout the State.
The Secretary of Public Security, Guilherme Derrite, emphasized the importance of “release more police officers from the combatant ranks to operational service”, which represents another step towards rebuilding the number of Military Police in the State. “Our forecast, at first, are these 2,300 vacancies, but the goal is that, by the end of the administration, there will be 5,000 more police officers on the streets with the publication of the decree, freeing the military from administrative services to rebuild battalions in the entire state”he stated.
The vacancies prioritize reserve PMs who have had experience in some administrative position during the years they spent in the corporation. The officer will also undergo a medical examination to ensure fitness for duty. They will perform administrative, technical or specialized functions such as, for example, in the areas of human resources, bidding, purchasing and distribution of materials, team work schedules, social communication, among other internal activities.
The selection of veterans will be at the discretion of the battalions. For enlisted personnel (with careers ranging from soldiers to warrant officers) the salary is R$6,700. Officers (from lieutenants to colonels) receive R$10,700.
Unlike the schedules of active police officers, who work shifts even in the early hours of the morning, reserves working in this role have commercial hours, from Monday to Friday, with remuneration per day of service, in addition to the right to vacation and other benefits.
“I think the most important thing is to offer this inactive police officer the opportunity to return to contributing to the Military Police. Furthermore, it allows police officers who are still active to stop working in this more bureaucratic part and reinforce the safety of the population on the streets”explained Captain Gustavo Maciel, from Sape (Subsecretariat for Monitoring Strategic Projects), from SSP (Secretariat of Public Security).
Interested parties can register for the notice, which will be opened in the next few days, with a description of the vacancies and available regions. The contract for the work of reserve police officers is for a maximum of 4 years.
Active vs. inactive police officer
Despite contributing once again to the work of the Military Police, the reserve police officer who chooses to work in administrative roles will continue to be inactive. As a result, you will not be able to wear a uniform or compete for promotions, for example.
Police officers who are in reserve are those who contributed the minimum amount of time to the institution and decided to retire, becoming inactive.
Furthermore, the Sape captain explained that the military is different from a public servant “who retires and loses a link with the institution”, being a beneficiary of the state pension system. In the case of this job, the police officer continues to receive the retirement amount from the corporation, but he will also have an “extra” with the service provided in the administrative position.
“By law, when a military police officer retires, he remains linked to the institution, but is inactive, even so, he is still responsible for the military code, so if he commits any disciplinary transgression he will be responsible for it based on the regulations. Other retirees completely break ties with the entity or company they worked for.”he explained.
