A senior source in the general staff of the Ukrainian armed forces said today that its forces do not intend, at this stage, to withdraw from the Russian enclave, which they say they still control “almost 800 square kilometers”.

“We will stay (in the Russian region of) Kursk for as long as it takes,” the source told reporters. “The maximum area of land we occupied (in this region) was 1,376 km2. Today, it is almost 800 km2”, he clarified.

At the same time, the same source said that Russian forces were advancing “200 to 300 meters a day” near Kurakovo, one of the hottest spots in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine.

“The enemy is advancing” rapidly in the Korakovo sector and “advancing 200 to 300 meters per day,” the source told reporters. Kurakovo is among the important locations that may soon fall.

In the Pokrovsk sector, a logistical support hub for Ukrainian forces in the same region, the situation is more favorable and “essentially has not changed over the past two months,” he added.
