The Federal University of Acre (Ufac), reported this Friday (22), on the implementation of the extension project in partnership with the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (Iphan), called Canteiro Modelo de Conservação de Xapuri (CMCX) .
The initiative consists of carrying out activities to study and maintain the municipality’s historical heritage, such as the area surrounding Casa de Chico Mendes, and offer training to assist in the conservation of the region.
According to the institution, since this year, teachers and students of Civil Engineering and Geography, as well as architecture professionals, have worked on preparing and executing the project.
They planned the activities that will be carried out, carried out physical reconnaissance of the region and registered residents who will participate in qualifying workshops. Community members must be included as agents in the conservation of the site.
The event is part of the National Conservation Model Canteiro, which has centers spread across the Brazilian territory, as part of the Citizen Heritage Program, a set of initiatives financed by the federal government, through Iphan, which, together with federal institutions and universities, have the purpose of protecting marginalized territories in areas listed by the institute.
Currently, there are 17 construction sites in the country, in municipalities such as São Miguel das Missões (RS), Cabo Frio (RJ), Ouro Preto (MG) and Salvador (BA). In Acre, CMCX will operate around the residence of trade unionist and environmental leader Chico Mendes; His house was listed by Iphan in 2007, becoming a State heritage site.
The inauguration, which took place on Friday, was open to the public and was attended by the Iphan presidency, teachers, scholarship holders and local residents.
