Christmas is fast approaching. Therefore, it is worth thinking in advance about what can be done in advance to avoid pre-Christmas chaos during preparations. The ideal solution seems to be to prepare some dishes and desserts in advance. We suggest what dishes can be prepared many weeks before the holidays.
To avoid the pre-Christmas rush, we can prepare some dishes in advance and freeze them so that we can serve them quickly and efficiently later. This way we won’t have to rush and we’ll save some moneybecause many seasonal products become more expensive in December. Christmas dishes that we can prepare in advance include:
- Pierogi – we can freeze them raw or after cooking. To do this, place them on parchment next to each other, but not touching each other. In this form, we put them in the freezer. Only when the dumplings harden can we divide them into portions and put them in bags in which we will store them in the freezer. This will prevent them from sticking together.
- Patties – regardless of whether we have prepared yeast or shortcrust pastries, both types of dough can be successfully frozen. Thanks to this, we will have a quick snack for Christmas borscht.
- Bigos or Christmas Eve cabbage – both of these dishes can be frozen and prepared much earlier. It is worth enclosing the Lenten bigos in a jar.
- – we can freeze them before breading or after frying. The first option will result in a crispier coating. However, the second option will speed up preparations for the holidays even more, because all you need to do is heat the croquettes.
- Pie – both meat and plant options can be safely frozen. All we need to do is wrap the prepared pâté in foil that is resistant to low temperatures.

Not only savory dishes can be prepared in advance. We can do the same with sweets that will later end up on the Christmas table. We can prepare them in advance and freeze them or store them in a tightly closed container. These desserts include:
- Old Polish gingerbread – you can start preparing it as early as mid-November, because the dough should rest for about 5 weeks. It is also worth remembering that we need to bake such gingerbread a little earlier, i.e. about a week before Christmas.
- Gingerbread cookies – we can also prepare Christmas gingerbread in advance, because they can be baked up to 2 weeks before Christmas. Later, just store them in an airtight container or jar and they will retain their taste and freshness without any problems.
- Poppy seed cake – in this case, there are two possible solutions – either we prepare the homemade poppy seed cake and the yeast dough separately, and then freeze these two elements, or we bake the whole poppy seed cake without icing decorations and put it in the freezer. Then just moisten it slightly and put it in the oven to make it taste like fresh.
