Atlético-GO is mathematically relegated to Series B of the Brazilian Championship. Dragão is bottom of the Championship and has just 26 points in the competition.
After the 1-0 defeat to Palmeiras this Saturday (23), the club, which was already facing a practically irreversible trajectory, saw its last chances of remaining in the elite of national football disappear for good. Atlético-GO cannot, resulting in the drop to the second division of the Brazilian Championship.
This is Atlético-GO’s fourth relegation since 2010, when the club debuted in Série A in the current format of the Brazilian Championship. In addition to 2023, the red-black team had already been relegated in 2012, 2017 and 2022.
The team was the champion of Goiás, achieving a sequence of 15 victories, the best record in the club’s history, but did not qualify for the Brazilian Championship.
In 35 games, there were only six wins, eight draws and 21 defeats, the last being against Palmeiras this Saturday.
