The works, for which the road was closed, managed to be completed ahead of time. Likewise, the D4 branch from Jaroviec to D1 is already connected. Transport Minister Jozef Ráž (Smeru-SD nominee) and General Director of the National Highway Company (NDS) Filip Macháček informed about this at the Sunday press briefing.

“From now on, the road from Jaroviec, i.e. from Austria to D1, will be passable, which means that drivers can use Bratislava’s southern bypass with a connection to D1, which I believe will significantly ease the exit from Bratislava from today,” said Ráž. The connection of the branches required the temporary closure of the highway from Zlaty Pieskov to the Senec intersection, as some works could not be carried out while maintaining traffic.

Macháček reminded that the work on connecting the branch from Jaroviece was completed earlier than originally planned. He added that the D1 highway will be closed again next weekend (November 29 – December 1) due to work on the connection of the second branch, i.e. in the direction from Trnava to Rača.

NDS tentatively plans to gradually close D1 in the direction of Bratislava from Trnava on Friday, November 29 from 8:00 p.m. Full closure should occur at 10 p.m. “We will have a discussion about whether it would not be better to close the arrival to Bratislava earlier on Friday and then have the opportunity to open it earlier on Sunday,” added Macháček.

The construction of the D1/D4 intersection and the extension of the D1 near Bratislava are among the most significant investments in road infrastructure in western Slovakia. The current state of the highway no longer technically or in terms of capacity met the demands of the number of motorists who pass through the section every day. Connecting the bypass and D1 will relieve Bratislava of transit traffic.
