“Everything is gone. We don’t even know how we’re going to eat”, says a popular person. Authorities will investigate the causes of the fire, which reportedly started on the second floor of one of the houses.
A slum in Manila, in the capital of the Philippines, which is home to around two thousand people, was hit by a massive fire. It was around eight in the morning local time that it all started. The fire quickly spread from house to house and was only extinguished eight hours later.
According to the local fire department, at least a thousand homes were hit by the flames.
“We save our children first, before thinking about our belongings”, says a popular person. “Everything is gone. We don’t even know how we’re going to eat. We’re in a very bad situation and it’s almost Christmas,” says another resident.
Authorities will investigate the causes of the fire, which reportedly started on the second floor of one of the houses.
A recurring problem
It is not the first time that a major fire has hit the city. In 2017, 15 thousand people were homeless. In August this year, 11 people died in a fire that destroyed a five-story building.
According to investigations, these fires are usually caused by a fault in the electrical installation.
