Minas Gerais is on alert for dangerous heavy rains in the coming days, according to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet).
The orange warning is valid until 10am next Tuesday (26). The institute informs that the storms offer danger to the population of the state of Minas Gerais.
The agency divides the alerts into three severity levels: Potential Hazard (yellow), Danger (orange) and Great Danger (red).
Inmet warns of rainfall of up to 60 mm per hour and intense winds of up to 100 km/h. There is a risk of falling branches and trees, flooding and power cuts.
The state is almost entirely covered by intense rain warnings. This is because the agency also issued a “Potential Danger” alert which encompasses part of the Minas Gerais territory.
The orange and yellow marks represent the notices published by Inmet. See below.
The alerts are still valid for 16 other states and the Federal District. In addition to Minas Gerais, Bahia is expected to suffer the greatest impact from the rains.
According to the alerts, 2,343 municipalities may be affected through the storms until this Tuesday. Among them, 732 are in Minas Gerais.
Inmet also advises the population of these regions not to take shelter under trees or park vehicles near towers and power transmission poles.
According to the institute, the forecast for this Sunday (24) in Belo Horizonte, capital of MG, is many clouds with isolated rain throughout the day and relative humidity can vary between 40% and 90%.
Temperatures can vary between 14°C and 26°Cwhich represents a large thermal amplitude in the region.
