Military commanders agreed with Bolsonaro’s proposal, the coup prevailed and the election was annulled. Documents found on General Fernandes’ hard drive state:

On December 16, 2022, it was created. It works on the second floor of Planalto. It is headed by and coordinated by the general. Below them are two more generals and 13 colonels. Paisanos, just advisor Filipe Martins, the coup jurist, and two lawyers.

Among its missions, the Crisis Management Office established “a single discourse at all levels in social communication activities to avoid interpretations and conclusions that misinform the population”.

The Cabinet’s action was supported by a roadmap prepared a long time ago. An inquiry was opened to investigate fraud that occurred in the annulled election. (Someday there will be another.) The minister and other “elements that generate instability in the STF” were “neutralized”. A “legalistic force” was created that issues “arrest warrants against those involved in signs of irregularities in the electoral process”. The arrests were “widely publicized”.

With its barracks since 1831, Brazil has seen it all, but this would be the only coup designed to keep a bunch of palace officials in power.
