Today, singer Franklin Pinheiro moved everyone by paying tribute to the former governor of Acre, Flaviano Melo, who passed away last Wednesday, November 20, 2024. The artist, who followed Melo’s political trajectory since childhood , recalled the former governor’s importance to the state’s history, singing one of the most memorable jingles in Acre politics, composed by Sérgio Souto.
“I was only 12 years old when I heard this song. At that time, Tucumã was still a young neighborhood. Flaviano, continue in peace”, declared Franklin, reflecting on his youthful memories and the influence that Melo had on the political life of Acre.
Flaviano Flávio Baptista de Melo was born on November 17, 1949, in Rio Branco. Son of former state deputy Raimundo Hermínio de Melo and owner Laudelina Sousa Baptista de Melo, he graduated in civil engineering and had a notable career, which included stints at large construction companies, such as Mendes Junior.
Flaviano Melo’s political career began in 1986, when he was elected governor of Acre by the PMDB, a position he held until 1990. He was also a senator and mayor of Rio Branco, as well as a federal deputy for four consecutive terms. His contribution to the politics and development of Acre is fondly remembered by thousands of Acreans.
Flaviano Melo’s death generated a wave of commotion mainly among people who recognize the importance of his legacy. Franklin Pinheiro, when remembering his youth and the song that marked an era, brought to light the memories of a leader who left an indelible mark on the state’s history.
