Harry Kane scored all three goals in Bayern Munich’s 3-0 victory against Augsburg, this Friday (22), in the 11th round of the Bundesliga, the German Championship.
It was the 27th time in his professional career that he scored at least three goals in a match, the so-called hat-trick, which is one of the hallmarks of great scorers.
He also became the fastest player to score 50 goals in the Bundesliga, in 43 matches, beating the Norwegian phenomenon Erling Haaland, now at Manchester City, who reached five dozen goals in five dozen games, for Borussia Dortmund, in 2021 .
At 31 years old, with almost 450 goals scored, Kane is one of the greatest strikers in the world.
He is the top scorer in the history of the English team, with 69 goals (in 103 games), ahead of Wayne Rooney, Bobby Charlton, Gary Lineker, Michael Owen and others.
However, he carries with him the reputation of being cold, “for not having won a single title”, whether with clubs or with the English Team, since he turned professional, in 2010, for Tottenham, his favorite team.
He played for the London team – which loaned him for short periods to Leyton Orient, Milwall, Norwich and Leicester – until last year, when Bayern Munich signed him.
He reached the 2019 Champions League final. He lost to Mohamed Salah and Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool. It also has two runners-up in the English League Cup (2015 and 2021).
Wearing the England shirt, he played in two Euro Cup finals, the European Championship. It lost both, in 2021 to Italy and this year to Spain.
He started playing in each of these finals, and in each of them he left the field without finding the net.
Tottenham, despite the strength of the shirt, could not be a match nationally for competitors like Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, all champions during the period in which Kane and company were sinking.
Thus, the center forward’s move to Germany seemed to be a guarantee of putting an end to his reputation as a loser. Only not.
Bayern, with its new number 9, was beaten (3-0) by Leipzig in the final of the German Super Cup last year and, in the 2023/2024 season, managed not to win the Bundesliga for the first time since 2013 – there were 11 titles followed.
It is impossible not to relate the “unlucky” Kane, the championship’s top scorer with 36 goals, to the Munich giant’s misfortune.
So, Kane continues his trophy drought, without having lifted a single one, right? Wrong.
He has two international achievements on his CV, with Tottenham: the 2018 International Champions Cup (ICC), a points competition, and the 2019 Audi Cup, with a triumph in the final over Bayern, in the penalty shootout, in which Kane converted his.
They are minor successes, from now-extinct pre-season tournaments – possibly for this reason marginalized by the media –, and in the ICC he did not even enter the field despite being registered, but they are still successes.
In short: Kane, contrary to popular belief, was once a champion.
And a great trophy will come: Bayern are comfortably leading the Bundesliga, I believe that this time not even his freezing foot will be an impediment.
