Left-wing social movements are planning a national protest for the arrest of the former president () on December 10th, in the investigation that found an attempted coup to keep him in power after his defeat in the 2022 elections.
The movement is organized by leaders that make up fronts such as , aea , which bring together hundreds of entities, including CUT (Central Única dos Trabalhadores, , , and , and which led the “Out, Bolsonaro” campaign during the years of the former government -president.
The date of December 10 was chosen because it is International Human Rights Day. The locations of the events in each city will be discussed in the coming weeks.
“Our challenge is to increase Bolsonaro’s isolation in society and put Bolsonaro on the defensive. But this is not a 100-meter race, it is a marathon”, says Raimundo Bonfim, from the Central de Movimentos Populares.
He adds that the movements intend to expand mobilization beyond the left and reach “all segments that defend democracy.
After the conclusion of the investigation on Thursday (21), the Federal Police indicted Bolsonaro, including reserve general Braga Netto, former Minister of Defense and vice-president in 2022 on the defeated ticket. Military personnel are the majority among the suspects — 25 in total.
The case was submitted for analysis by the minister, of the (Supreme Federal Court), who should forward it to the (Attorney General’s Office).
