Dumplings with cabbage and mushrooms dominate on Christmas Eve. Many people ask themselves: Can frozen ones taste the same as fresh ones? It turns out that yes. We present the most important information about freezing and cooking dumplings.
Some people put them in the freezer raw, right after sticking them together. Still others recommend freezing cooked or blanched ones. In the latter case, place the dumplings in boiling water for only 30 seconds. So which method is the best?
We recommend freezing raw or blanched dumplings. Then they retain the most flavor. When it comes to cooking, it is best to do it not on Christmas Eve, but, for example, when we have not eaten all the pieces for dinner.
Dumplings must be properly prepared for freezing. Place them on a tray that has been previously sprinkled with flour or greased with oil. Another method is to place them on paper and smear each piece with oil.
We must arrange the dumplings so that they do not touch each other. Finally, cover them with food foil. Thanks to such freezing, we can be sure that they will not be dry or stick together, and that the dough will not fall apart during cooking.
If we don’t have much space in the freezer, we can put the dumplings into ziplock bags. However, we have to freeze them for 3 hours.
We do not need to defrost dumplings before cooking. Thrown into hot water, they will quickly become ready to eat. Defrost the ones you want to heat in the pan.
To cook the dumplings, use a large pot in which they will not touch each other. Pour water into it, salt it and add some oilwhich will prevent them from sticking together.
Cook the frozen dumplings over low heat. We should also cover the pot. We will then be sure that they will not crack and that the stuffing will heat up well.
