Ghost of Russian sabotage hovers in latest tragic DHL plane crash

this Monday in the capital of Lithuania, Vilnius, killing one person who was traveling in it and injuring two others, who have been taken to the hospital, local authorities have reported.

Subsequently, the head of communication of the Lithuanian Police, Ramūnas Matonis, informed EFE that, as well as a member of the crew who was injured and hospitalized.

Matonis said a German and another Lithuanian citizen were also injured and hospitalized after the Boeing 737 crashed in a residential area near Vilnius airport.

The accident took place around 5:30 a.m. (local time), when the plane flying from the German city of Leipzig hit a home in the Lithuanian capital. According to the Lithuanian state broadcaster RTL, the building caught fire due to the impact but did not cause any casualties. “All (twelve) residents of the house are safe and have been evacuated,” said Vilnius Mayor Valdas Benkunskas.

The councilor has indicated that the plane did not arrive at the house “by chance” and crashed in the patio, although the causes of the accident, which are being investigated, are still unknown. Vilnius airport continues to operate as usual, despite some flight delays.

The head of the Department of State Security (VSD), Darius Jauniškis, asked this Monday not to rush to conclusions. “As long as what is known is known, there are not many details. As you know, a preliminary investigation has been launched, various services are carrying out their actions. The investigation will probably be long, because there is certainly a lot of work.”

“So far, as far as is known, it’s probably too early to make connections or make attributions. We didn’t really have any prior information about it. All the circumstances and details will become clear in the process. And I think all the questions that are possible in the future will have an answer,” he stated. And he assured that they are also working with foreign partners.

Furthermore, he pointed out that “the case of terrorism cannot be ruled out,” according to the newspaper. . “Of course, the VSD, along with the Operational Services Department, has warned that such things are possible in the future. We see Russia becoming more aggressive. And, as you know, foreign partners have gone on the air, talking about the dangers of, say, cases of sabotage, of a certain threat of terrorism. We cannot rule out this version either. But for now there are no attributions, we cannot really point out something because there is no information about it,” said the VSD director.
